Germany's Schäuble: EU without the UK would be 'absolutely not acceptable'
FXStreet (Łódź) - In an interview for the Financial Times published on Monday German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schäuble stressed how crucial it was to keep the UK in the EU, and that Germany would do all that is possible to convince the country not to leave the union.
"Historically, politically, democratically, culturally Great Britain is entirely indispensable for Europe," Schäuble emphasized.
The German Finance Minister also said that Germany wasn't upbeat on prospects for treaty change, even very limited, adding that "the Netherlands would also not do this lightly."
Furthermore, Schäuble commented on Germany's upcoming G7 presidency saying that improving the international tax system as well as closing loopholes in financial market regulation would at the top of the agenda.
