Australian 10yr yields hit record lows, FX remains muted – TDS

FXStreet (Barcelona) - The TD Securities Team shares the yield and FX movements in the Asian session, noting that Australian 10yr bond yields hit record lows today, trading at 2.614%.

“Australian 10yr bond yields hit record lows near the open reaching 2.64% and proceeded to move even lower in yield to trade 2.614%. However nearly all the gains were unwound over the course of the session, even though US10yr yields rose about just 1bp.”

“10yr ACGBs close today at 2.68%, down 3bps from yesterday’s close, leaving the curve unchanged at 55bps. 10yr NZGB yields closed 5bps lower. This pullback in bonds coincided with equities recovering losses from earlier in the session, but now most indices across Asia are close to unchanged.”

“Moves in FX space are muted. The CAD is the best performing cross vs the USD, unchanged at US$1.1840, while most other currencies are off 0.05-0.1%.”

As per the data released by the German Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), Retail sales in November registered at 1.00% month-on-month, beating expectations of 0%, and down from October’s 2%.
